Little by Little... Bit by Bit

Little By Little….Bit By Bit

(Excerpts from a lecture that I had presented; please contact me if you desire to read it in its entirety)

Consider a wood carver (carpenter), a skin grafter (surgeon) and an ice sculptor.  Prior to beginning a specific job; each already has in view a picture of how the finished product should look.  Although each of these people is very skilled– their level of expertise is limited to their specific arena.  The materials that they use are quite different – but their techniques are similar. If they are going to be successful in their accomplishments, they all must first excel in a course entitled “Patience 101”.  Patience is a vital component that must be on board.  They all have also learned that a skillful hand is governed by a focused mind.  They have learned that because of the nature of their work; delicate and intensive procedures are involved.  They have learned that whether they must chisel, shave or chip – it must be done; layer by layer; little by little and bit by bit.

When God sees us He sees the finished product.  Therefore, every day, He is chipping, chiseling and shaving from us everything that is preventing us from becoming what He has already decreed that we shall become.

Wood, skin and ice are all composed differently; yet bare some of the same components.  How do we initially identify each?  By their outward appearance.    In contrast – how are we initially identified by others? When people look at us – wherever we are – they expect to see us depicting who we proclaim to be.   Therefore, God as the craftsman is always chipping away old habits; chiseling away incorrect doctrines, theologies and traditions; and shaving off any traces of our former Adamic nature.

Every substance has a level of durability that is common to its molecular structure.   One test that yields a lot of information is the ability of a substance to endure heat.  When we consider our three elements, ice has the least resistance to fire; and wood the greatest.  God is taking us through each phase of our lives to get us to the point where our natural composition is completely changed and we become more of a spiritual molecular being.  His desire is that we will have the durability of a piece of wood – yet function with the transparency of ice.

So, wherever you are in your own developmental stage – you are still a “work in progress”.   When you have learned to permit your flesh (skin); to go through the process of isolation (required for the formulation of ice); then you will become as durable as a brick of gold (representative of wood).

“Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in my mother’s womb.

I thank you, High God—you’re breathtaking!   Body and soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in adoration—what a creation! You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something.  Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before you, The days of my life all prepared before I’d even lived one day.
