Marinating…but in What?

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” Joshua 1:8 (ESV)

Preparation is always a vital instrument.  Our ability to successfully outwit the adversary is to sensor the type of “marinating” that our spirit man is being exposed to.  Today, as never before, it is essential that we are ever cautious and remain on our guard concerning the types of material that we are constantly permitting to enter through our ear and eye gates.  Far too often we are permitting our spirits to be marinated with; and to become saturated with the concepts of this world – without our knowledge. However, if we maintain the proper relationship with the Lord, He will always alert us to the ploys of the enemy.

Don’t permit your spirit to become desensitized to what God has established as our foundational principles and guidelines.  With the advancements in technology, we have the ability to have God inspired material at our disposal as often as we desire. Therefore, it is our responsibility to “choose” what we will permit our spirits to bask, soak… marinate in.

Here is a prime example.  I very, very rarely watch television.  However, a program had come on after the news that caught my attention. I think that it was some type of detective story. About a minute into the program; the Lord said, “You can’t watch this”.  So I immediately turned it off.  When I asked Him why, He said that the program had the potential to introduce the spirit of fear and deceit into my spirit.  He also said that if I had permitted my spirit to marinate in such for an hour – I would have availed myself to every negative concept from the program.  Now… would I have gone to hell for watching the program?  Absolutely not.  However, like Sampson, upon my next encounter with the enemy; I would not have had the necessary wisdom, power and authority.  If we are going to stay at least a step or two ahead of our adversary – we must be on our alert at all times.  Everything that is a “good” thing may not be a “God” thing!

We can’t possibly be aware of every current device that the enemy will use in an attempt to bring defeat and or demise to our plan of action.  However, when we begin to marinate in the presence of the Lord, we will have the ability to maintain a consciousness of Him – that will always alert us to every potential adverse situation.

Yes… preparation is vital.  Remember, marinating is a preparatory process.  It is a current procedure, whose results assure us of our future success. The problem is not “if” we are marinating…. But “what” we using as our marinating substance.

“I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways.” Psalm 119:15 ESV

  • Answering the call of God in ministry lead you to a place of uncertainty; however depending on God like never before, drawing even closer to him, and absolutely not allow no person, thing, situation to take you off your assignment.  Blessed is the man that walk….but mediate day and night; Ps. 1:1-3, approach the throne of grace with boldness; be careful for nothing Phil. 4:4-9; and that is why we have to be steadfast unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord;  1 Cor. 15:58.  We have to recognize that our spirit man is very sensitive and delicate and we can’t watch or be involve with a lot of stuff, due to the fact that the enemy has his scheming tacked, deceitfulness and cunning treacherous on TV and in real life.

  • Wow this is good! I remember when I was a child my aunt wouldn't let me watch scary movies, as i got older I asked why and she said you are opening up your temple and giving the enemy access....I still to this day won't watch scary movies! This is so powerful and yet most have no clue of how TV shows reck their spiritual lives!

Keeping your eyes on the prize:  We have a personal enemy lurking around like a lion looking for someone to devour.  The devil (evil one) is focused on stealing, killing, and destroying Gods Kingdom.   God has given us an offensive weapon, the Word (Spirit); so that we may stand in Christ when the evil one comes.  Meditation on the Word helps us guard our spiritual heart so that we obey and submit to God.  This makes our way prosperous and we will have good sucess.

  • I like the word marinate when I think about marinating I think about how we marinate food chicken for example we saturate it in the marinating sauce and let it soak down into the meat. So in the natural so in the spiritual, if allow the Holy Ghost to saturate us and let Him soak down past the flesh to our inner parts He will lead and guide us to all truth and direct us away from things that will harm Him since through the saturating is the indwelling of the spirit within us. There are many ways the adversary will try to infiltrate our spirits through music it could be a song playing as background music in a mall, we must guard the issues of our hearts and choose the right marinating.
  • I thank God that we can soak in the will of God and be able to do the will of the power that work in us.

  • This is great! We have to ensure that we are exposed to the spirit

I am realizing that I don't want to be a part of any negativity.  I am very uneasy if I run into someone that does not love the Lord.  I try my best to stay away from negative spirits.  I need to read the Bible more so I can learn the word of God and use it as a weapon against the enemy.

  • OMG! Yes! We must be careful what we watch, read, and listen to. When we marinate on the wrong things, we will be full of the wrong things. We must remember that the wrong marinating will make us sick, but marinating on the things of God will fill us with power, discernment, and wisdom!

  • Great post Apostle Boatright. Scriptures does tell us to guard our eyes and ears that we may see no evil, speak no evil or hear no evil. This also helps us as Christians to be aware of our circle of associates. The ole cliche' everybody that smile in our face is not our friends. In other words these type of people are not necessary bad people but they are not on the same spiritual level that we are on. I know Jesus surrounded himself with unbelievers in order to teach and compel them and make them aware of who he was.
