Bad Reputations

In Philemon 1:10-11 it reads, "I appeal to you for my son Onesimus, who became my son while I was in chains. Formerly he was useless to you, but now he has become useful both to you and to me." Paul makes an appeal on behalf of a brother who apparently had a bad reputation. A reputation is the value, assessment, or a kind of social rating placed upon a person based on the perception of their character, image, and activities. The Bible clearly states, "Man looketh on the outward appearance" (I Sam. 16:7). We can have a good reputation or we can have a bad reputation. Another person's assessment of us can be accurate or inaccurate. perception is reality to the person perceiving. The enemy uses this fact to twist and distort our perceptions. You may start out with a bad reputation, but by the grace of God, you can end up with a good reputation. Yield your members unto God and become useful in the kingdom of God.
Pray this prayer or a prayer similar to this: Father, I cry out unto the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God who is able to change both my name and nature. According to Proverbs 22:1 and Ecclesiastes 7:1, a good name is better than precious ointments, and it is better to be chosen than to have great riches. Therefore I decree and declare that my name is associated with holiness, righteousness, integrity, favor, and excellence. Give me a good name in the name of Jesus. Amen.
