1. Restitution

The Meaning Of Restitution in the Bible is an act of restoring to the rightful owner something that has been taken away, stolen, lost, or surrendered...

In Ancient Biblical Times When someone took or stole something that was not his/hers, full restitution of the property had to be made and an added 20 percent (one-fifth of its value) had to be paid as compensation.

1 Samuel 30: 1~6 Now it happened, when David and his men came to Ziklag, on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the South and Ziklag, attacked Ziklag and burned it with fire, and had taken captive the women and those who were there, from small to great; they did not kill anyone, but carried them away and went their way. So David and his men came to the city, and there it was, burned with fire; and their wives, their sons, and their daughters had been taken captive. Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voices and wept, until they had no more power to weep. And David’s two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the widow of Nabal the Carmelite, had been taken captive. Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.

A) So David inquired of the LORD, saying, “Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?”

B) And He answered him, “Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all.”
The relationship with David and his LORD are not even comparable with any other in the Bible except for Jesus. David knows that the LORD has the answer to what he should do. The LORD spoke to the people through the ephod of the priest. David had placed his will into the hands of the LORD, by consulting Him before acting. The LORD tells David to take the men and pursue the enemy. He reassures David, that all will be saved. There will be no loss to David and his men. The only loss will be to the Amalekites.

1Samuel 30: 18-20 So David recovered all that the Amalekites had carried away, and David rescued his two wives. And nothing of theirs was lacking, either small or great, sons or daughters, spoil or anything which they had taken from them; David recovered all. Then David took all the flocks and herds they had driven before those other livestock, and said, “This is David’s spoil.”

Two hundred of King David’s men was so weary, they couldn’t cross over the Brook Besor to fight alongside David and the rest of his men, so they were left behind, after defeating the Amalekites, David and his four hundred men came back to the Brook Besor where the two hundred men greeted them. God is so merciful and gracious even though these men didn’t go fight with the rest of the men, God still blessed every one of them…

1Samuel 30: 22~24 Then all the wicked and worthless men of those who went with David answered and said, “Because they did not go with us, we will not give them any of the spoil that we have recovered, except for every man’s wife and children, that they may lead them away and depart.”
But David said, “My brethren, you shall not do so with what the Lord has given us, who has preserved us and delivered into our hand the troop that came against us. For who will heed you in this matter? But as his part is who goes down to the battle, so shall his part be who stays by the supplies; they shall share alike. Selah…

Luke 19:10 But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, "Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount."

2. Retribution

Romans 12:19 - Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but [rather] give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance [is] mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

2 Thessalonians 1:6~8 For after all it is only just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.…

I Declare full restitution and vengeance is the Lord's'; He shall repay...
