Woman Who Survived Cancer Five Times Celebrates 100th Birthday
by Teresa Neumann : Jan 26, 2011 : Staff - Daily Mail
Breast cancer, gall bladder cancer, cancer of the bowel—and still—she lives.
REPORTER'S NOTE: Though this centenarian doesn't credit God for her long life—at least, as far as I can tell from the original article—as BCN Founding Editor Steve Shultz says: "Her type of 'fighting spirit' came from God." In other words, there was a reason God wanted this woman to live and, therefore, she had the ability to fight death. Of course, there are millions battling cancer who "fight death" and don't live to be 100, but it is my hope that this article will inspire those in that situation to not give up. -Teresa Neumann, BCN.
(United Kingdom)—Ellen McDonald has achieved a stunning victory in her life. She recently turned 100. Though, in itself, becoming a centenarian may not be remarkable, what is remarkable is that she has beaten cancer FIVE times in her life.
As reported in The Daily Mail, the feisty great-grandmother's health issues "began when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in the early 1950s and she had to have a double mastectomy...McDonald is still going strong despite enduring several operations—including one in 1963 where a priest was called as doctors thought she wouldn't survive."
Said McDonald: "I've had it tough with the old cancer, five times it has tried to take me in total but I've managed to fight it off. I've had a double mastectomy, a hysterectomy from my fifth bout, I've had my gall bladder removed and I survived bowel cancer. After one operation I woke and the surgeon told me that the operation was over but wasn't sure if I would pull through...I can remember a priest was in the room standing over me and he was reading passages from the Bible and there was somebody else there who was crying. But, I told them I am a fighter and I managed to pull through."
