Although the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John all cover basically the same ground, each one looks at Jesus’ life from a unique angle. For example, Matthew and Luke begin with historical background, taking pains to verify Jesus’ Old Testament connections. Mark plunges right in to report on Jesus’ actions.
After John the Baptist fans enthusiasm for Jesus—so much enthusiasm, in fact, that John lands in jail—Jesus openly announces his ministry. He has some surprises in store for the eager audience. For one thing, Jesus goes, not to Jerusalem, the natural center of activity for any aspiring leader, but to small towns in the hill country of Galilee.
New Style of Prophet
Jesus has spent his childhood in Galilee, in the obscure town of Nazareth, which leads some sophisticates to scoff, “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” (John 1:46). Except for festival times when he travels to Jerusalem, Jesus shows a marked preference for small towns and rural areas, especially in the remote northern region of Galilee.
In other ways, too, Jesus does not fit the expected image of a prophet. His cousin John personifies the severe ascetic image: He lives in a desert, eats insects and preaches a harsh message of judgment. But Jesus lives in the midst of people, dines in their homes and brings a message of “the good news of God.”
Although Jesus may not be a conventional leader, as soon as he begins healing people, his reputation swells overnight. News of his miraculous power spreads, even when he tries to hush it up. The word about an amazing, unconventional kind of prophet gets out.

Considering what you have read about Jesus so far, what characteristic about him surprises you most?

What surprises me regarding Jesus's characteristics is how humble he remain to his father, consistently praying to him and conferring to him for advice.
People would say about me, "She use to be this, she use to do that", now shes standing on the corner preaching the word of God. I personally don't care what they say about me, because that last statement is worth more that a bucket of gold to me right now. I don't know if I'm ready for what's about to happen in my life, but I've come to far to stop now, the rest is inevitable.
There is no surprises in Jesus. they would say the same thing about me. I would try to handle the power in the same way that Jesus handle it. I am ready. when Jesus told the people no to tell about what has done. But people being people could not obey.
I am more than ready, Praise God....I have a hunger to be more like Jesus and less like Kira....The characteristic that I admire the most was his humbleness .....meekness.....look at how awesome he was yet it never changed him one bit.......
I really sat and pondered the answer to what surprises me most about Jesus. And I can honestly and truly say... nothing. As a child listening and learning about Jesus in Sunday school, I just believed what I was told and what I read. Christ's character, His compassion and love, His humility, His obedience and His desire to see that captives were set free are all things I guess I kinda just took for granted. It simply was who He is, and I never questioned or tried to rationalize it.
I'm not really sure what people would say about me, but I do know what they won't be able to say. They won't be able to say that I didn't represent God to the best of my ability. That's not to say that I will walk in perfection, but it is to say that I won't walk in defeat.
I would handle that power with dignity and humility. Understanding that it's not "my" power, but God's power that He has entrusted unto me to let His glory be known in the earth. I will honor that power by seeking to understand it and always giving God the glory for every thing that's done by His power thru me.
I believe I am equipped and properly prepared. Yes.. I AM READY!!!!
Him being God and having all authority,but remaining as humble as he was still surprises me,his humility toward the people even though they meant to harm him was amazing. I believe that people will treat me the way they treated Jesus and those that served along side of him. They tried to kill his character cause hatred. I will and do have Haters, but Like Pastor Teyshana say's ,My haters make me greater!!! I have to stand on the word of God and use the authority and power that God gave me. I can not be afraid of men and their faces. Greater is he that is in me than he that is in the word.
