Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: "Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. These men are not drunk, as you suppose. It's only nine in the morning! No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

"In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved" (Acts 2:14-21 NIV).

When the Holy Spirit came to those that were in the upper room awaiting and expecting God to perform his promise of being endowed with power from on high. Some of the crowd spoke out of turn and without knowledge. They mocked and said, "The disciples were drunk with wine". They did not comprehend the spiritual aspect of hearing divers tongues going forth in their own language or region of the world. The differences in languages which started at Babel, has hindered the spread of knowledge and christianity, even unto today. This is the way the Holy Spirit chooses today, through tongues in spreading the gospel. There would be no progress in christianity without the gift of tongues, which proves that the authority comes from God.

Peter's sermon shows that he was throughly recovered from his fall and completely restored to the Divine favor, for he had denied Christ, now he is boldly confessing him. His account of the miraculous pouring out of the Holy Spirit was to awaken and cause the hearers to embrace the faith and to join the church. It was the fulfilling of the Scriptures and the fruit of Christ's resurrection and ascension. Peter was filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke with other tongues as the Spirit gave him utterance, yet he did not think to set aside the Scriptures. Christ's disciples never learn or grow above their Bible, and the Holy Spirit is given to us, not to do away with the Scriptures, but to enable us to understand, approve and obey them. Remember, all the gifts of the Spirit is used as the Spirit wills, not by our own will. We have our "special" gifts, but do not forget that prayer/fasting, love and interceding for ourself is also necessary to be well rounded in Him.

  •    Get ready, God will be using the young, old, males and females to get his word out! Everyone will know that whoever calls upon the Lord, shall be saved. In the last days there will be signs on the earth and wonders in the heaven above. The Father will always let us know through the prophets what he is doing, what season and time we are living in. Believe the true prophets, so shall you prosper. There will always be an remnant, a people who will gladly obey the Lord. Will you stand for the Lord in this hour?
