ADD TO YOUR FAITH -- GODLINESS
The origin of the word in Greek is eusebeia. The definition is a personal attitude towards God with an action
springing directly from this.
The source of godliness comes from God. 2 Pet 1:3 says, “God has given unto us all things that pertain unto life
and godliness.”
How does this come about? Through the knowledge of God. We must get to KNOW God in order to be godly.
We must get to a point in our walk where we are in tune with what He wants, His ways and His way of seeing and
perceiving things. I have often thought of it as, “having the mind of Christ” on a matter. Being able to see it from
His point of view and having His thoughts towards a subject.
There is phony godliness that is counterfeit, as expressed in 2 Tim 3:5 which speaks of “having the form of
godliness but denying the power thereof.” We cannot have true godliness without being connected to the source
and drawing upon that power, which we have already been given, to be imple-mented into our lives. 1 Tim 4:7
speaks of “exercising ourselves unto godliness.” Like a muscle – it must be used – or else it will grow weak and
could even wither.
1 Tim 4:8 tells us that “…for godliness is profitable unto all things.”
1 Tim 6:6 says that “godliness with contentment is of great gain.”
1 Tim 6:7 tells us, “for we brought nothing into this world and it is certain that we can carry nothing out…” “and
having food and raiment let us be therewith content.” Then it goes on to talk about the lust for money, to have
material things and the snare this can bring.
1 Tim 6:11-12 says, “But thou O man of God, flee thee things; follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love,
patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold of eternal life.”
So you see how important godliness is to add to our faith. Many Scriptures have been spoken about godliness.
Eph 4:17-32 = THE NEW LIFE IN CHRIST
You see, now that we are saved, we must become NEW creatures in Christ Jesus our Lord. We must become
people who have godly actions, showing others that there IS a difference, that WE have the Spirit of Christ. How
else will they know this except they see our actions and reactions to situations?
God has already given us the power to be godly so then He tells us in His Word to, “henceforth walk not as other
Gentiles walk.” These people walk in the vanity of their minds with worthless thoughts that have no life in them.
Their minds are darkened and because of this they have hardened their hearts. They are ignorant of God and
stubborn. These souls have lost all shame, having given themselves over to all sorts of indecent things, vices
and uncleanness with greed.
BUT WE ARE THE CHILDREN OF GOD!
We have been taught the TRUTH! Eph 4:22 says that we must get rid of our old self, which made us live as we
use to, destroying us by our deceitful desires, and become NEW CREATURES in Christ Jesus. Putting on the
new man created in God’s likeness, revealing this new man in righteousness and holiness.
We must put away all lying of any kind, speaking only the truth, not ½, ¾, or ¼ truth.
If we become angry, we must not let our anger lead us into sin by saying things we are sorry for later, and
behaving in an ungodly manner. We must not stay angry all day long, for the Word says not to let the sun go
down upon our wrath. There must be a reason for this. We must not give the devil a chance to cause us to
stumble nor to get a foothold in our life.
We must no longer rob, but work in order to earn an honest living for ourselves. We are to work to be able to help
the poor. As God’s Word speak of three kinds of giving. Our tithes, offerings and giving to the poor. Eph 4:28
We must not let corrupt communication come forth out of our mouth. These are harmful words, dirty words,
digging remarks, snide remarks, or cattiness. But we are to speak only words that are good, helpful, build one
another up.
We must NOT grieve the Holy Spirit who seals us unto the day of our redemption. God’s mark of ownership is on
us by the Holy Spirit residing in us. For example, we have to carry our car registration in our car at all times to
prove that this car is really ours. We are like the car and the registration in us is the Holy Spirit residing in us, as
proof of the fact that we (the car) belong to our Owner, Our Father and Lord Jesus Christ.
The Holy Spirit is our guarantee that the day will come when God will set us free. So be careful! You carry Him
with you. He hears everything we say, He knows everything we think and He sees everything that we do.
The Word tells us to get rid of all bitterness, wrath, anger, shouting insults, and get rid of all hateful feelings of any
kind. Whatever someone may have done to us, we are still to forgive them, because our Father in Heaven has
forgiven us.
Instead we are to put on robes of righteousness, walk in the light, being filled with the Spirit, we are to be kind one
to another, forgiving each other, tenderhearted forgiving each other even as God, for Christ’s sake, has forgiven
us.
Let us turn our eyes and hearts upwards to our Father who loves us far more than we can imagine, developing a
holy, reverential, loving attitude towards Him! Thus, godliness will be the results in our lives
ALWAYS KNOW YOU ARE BLESS BY THE BEST AND THAT YOU ARE A QUEEN WITH RICHES SITTING HEAVENLY PLACES!!!!!
