6 Traits of a Successful Christian Woman Entrepreneur

by: Jen Bennett

I’ll never forget the day when my first business/ministry went LIVE on the Internet. I was thrilled with excitement about what the future held and I couldn’t wait to see all the lives that God would allow me to impact.

As I set out on this entrepreneurial journey, I quickly learned that while there were good days, there would also be some very hard days. Days where I not only questioned what I was doing, but days where I wondered if God would allow this “business” to grow.

After pursuing a couple of businesses, God led me in another direction, Social Media. And even though I had some successes with my other 2 businesses, God was leading me to another field, another harvest. I had to be willing to let go of my “first entrepreneurial babies.” It was hard.

As an Entrepreneur for the past 6 years, God has continually shown me specifics that allow us, as Christian Women Entrepreneurs, to #BeDifferent when it comes to our business, our clients, and the way we handle the ups and downs that come with this journey.

You see, being an Entrepreneur is not for the faint of heart. The reality is, it takes a lot of work, determination, persistence, consistency and the ability to get back up when things don’t turn out how you thought they would.

But….the benefits can be so rewarding. And I believe that as Christian women, we have been called to not only impact the business world, but to ultimately, make an impact for Jesus. And I believe there are 6 specific traits that set Successful Christian Women Entrepreneurs apart from everyone else:

  • She Prioritizes: A successful Christian woman entrepreneur has learned the importance of priorities. She’s come to realize what it is in this season of life, she needs to focus on; what to say yes to and what to say no to. And because of that, she doesn’t feel guilty or fall into the trap of people pleasing. Why? Because she knows she’s following the will of God for this specific time in her life.

But with that, she has also realized that her #1 priority is spending time with Christ every single day; her Business meeting with God is of utmost importance. Because she has prioritized her time with Christ, she not only has a clearer picture of the direction He wants her to walk in, but she has come to experience a deeper, more fruitful life with God; one that allows her to walk in her God-given priorities, without guilt, every single day.
  • She uses her time wisely: A successful Christian woman entrepreneur has learned the fine art of using her time wisely. She doesn’t overcommit and instead of wasting countless hours scrolling through Facebook or watching shows that do nothing for her business and her ministry, she’s out and about pursuing the goals and dreams that God has given her. And because she knows what her priorities are, she has Planned her week in such a way that allows her to pursue those goals and dreams while living into her priorities.
    • She controls her emotions: A successful Christian woman entrepreneur has learned how to keep her emotions in check. She knows that a successful life requires that she think before she acts, before she posts, before she texts, and before she responds to that email. She has made it a habit to take some deep breaths and pray before any kind of word or message comes out of her mouth or from her hands on the computer.
    • She’s a Risk Taker: A successful Christian woman entrepreneur has quickly learned that this journey requires taking risks. Without risks and faith, she will never experience the thrill of success that God has for her.

“When you risk walking into the unknown that God is calling you to, you will potentially encounter your own transfiguration moments on the mountaintop. You will become changed, from the inside out, for the better. But remember, sometimes we must die to the old in order to experience the new.” ~ Laurie Beth Jones

She learned that if God has called her and is leading her, it’s ok to walk into the unknown because ultimately, she will be changed for the better. She’s come to the conclusion that there is no “safer” place to be, than in the will and hands of Jesus. She trusts God, even if her hands are shaking.
    • She’s Patient: A successful Christian woman entrepreneur knows that overnight success doesn’t happen; it’s a myth. She realizes that every little task she completes on a daily basis, is setting her up for success in the future. She’s patient with the process because she knows that God is preparing her in every way, for what He has for her in the future. And because she knows this, she doesn’t give-up after a few months. She knows that if she does her part, He will do his. She fully knows and understands that God is in control and that in His perfect timing, what needs to happen will.
    • She Forgives: Lastly, a successful Christian woman entrepreneur forgives others on a daily basis. She knows that not only are people human and that she will encounter hurt as an entrepreneur, but she also knows that choosing not to forgive can keep her from experiencing God’s absolute best for her. And she wants NOTHING to interfere with what God has for her and her family.

I believe that as more and more of us truly live into the calling that God has called us to, being Christian Women Entrepreneurs, we will experience things we never imagined. And not only will our businesses be successful, but we will make an even greater impact for the Kingdom of God, which is the one priority we should all be aiming for.

This world is in desperate need of Christian women who are living into their calling. Women who are living into their priorities, managing their time will, controlling their emotions, taking risks, being patient and forgiving others.

Today, don’t be afraid to be the successful Christian woman entrepreneur that you have been called to be!
