You have heard that it was said, Do not commit adultery. But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell (Matt. 5:27-30 NIV).Jesus warns against lust, self-stimulation, and visual fornication. Jesus says it is better to suffer corporal punishment in the present life by amputating one's appendages than to spend eternity in hell. Of course gouging out one's eye cannot stop lust; people can lust with their eyes closed. Jesus is declaring in a graphic manner the importance that by whatever means necessary, one should cast off this sin of lust, which is a spirit. And repent in order to be ready for the kingdom of heaven.
