Expand Your Mind

Expand Your Mind

“…I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:10

I recently had a conversation with someone concerning the celebrating of various holidays.  I find it interesting that many people are still bound by various aspects of the law – when Christ came to eradicate such.  Although we are to still reverence the principles which were laid during that period of time – Christ has said that He has come to fulfill all that the law could not do (Romans 8:3-5).

I grew up in a Jewish community.  Our family was the only family on our entire block - and for several blocks; who weren’t Jews.  However, they all knew that my Dad was a Christian minister.  I can remember on many occasions when they knew of various holidays – even though they didn’t acknowledge them; they would come pass our home to “wish us well” in our observances….and we did the same to many of them.

I wonder what Jesus would relay concerning the observance of certain holidays.  To me, He seemed to express an “open mindedness” that many of his followers today don’t adhere to.

I am reminded of an occasion (Mark 9:40) when the disciples saw people who were not worshipping according to the “traditions” that they were accustom to.  Jesus only replied that if they weren’t against us – then they are okay.

So, although WE know that every day is a day to give thanks unto the Lord.  For many this time of the year is the only time when they will come together as a family and give offer some sort of gratitude unto the Lord.

WWJD???  (What Would Jesus Do)

Would He rebuke the people for not being thankful every day?

Would He tell them to not come together as a family at all?

Or would He expand His mind to the extent that at He would honor the reverence that is being shown to His Father?

Simply because God established the family prior to the organizing of the church; and without incorporating the notion of its original origin; if a nation selects a day to honor and to give thanks to Our Awesome God…..  Can we expand our minds to do the same?

But a thief does not come except to steal, kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life and have whatever is abundant.” (Aramaic Bible in Plain English)

  • AMEN!!!!

  • Awesome post!! Too many of us get caught up on the technicalities. Yes of course we ought to be thankful everyday, but we should not think less of those who set aside a specific day. We should be drawing people closer thru love, not pushing them away or putting them at odds because of our own closed mind. We should rather use the day as an opportunity to show forth the love of Christ and to draw them in and begin to explain why its important to be thankful every day.
