Lighthouse or “Lite” House?
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:5
The light within the lighthouse is always shining. However, its light is only visible when there is an absence of; or a limited availability of sunlight. Sailors would often rely on the lighthouse to guide them or to warn them of dangerous conditions at night or when the weather was cloudy. So, although the light from a lighthouse would shine just as brightly in the day; its light was totally irrelevant…until darkness appeared.
We have been called to be the lighthouse for the world today. The unsaved can be compared to a sailor who is lost at sea …in the dark. They, the world, are wandering around looking and hoping to find some refuge and comfort for their minds. They are looking for answers.
The dilemma is this; instead of those who are called to be the lighthouses, standing as the lighthouse; far too often, we stand as a “Lite” house. The word lite refers to something which contains a low or lesser amount of a substance than the original item. Therefore a lite house would not contain the power to withstand the storms of life; and would therefore succumb to the pressures of this world. A lite house is one who professes Christ with their mouth; but their works and lifestyle example a completely different revelation.
Consider the following:
- A lighthouse will stand in faith believing in the promises of God; however a lite house will give in and think that God won’t fulfill His promises.
- A lighthouse will continue to pay their tithes and offerings regardless to their circumstances; however a lite house will make excuses and stop when financial problems arise.
- A lighthouse will have the ability to stand and to be a living witness for the Lord without regards to their surrounds or to the circumstances; however a lite house will lack the boldness, stamina and loyalty to God which is required be a to living example in every situation.
And the list could continue. However we must remember that the Lord needs us to stand in these last days and to be true lighthouses for Him. The darker the night the brighter the light. In other words…. as this world becomes darker and more of the endtime diabolical plans of the enemy are daily released; we, the true lighthouses must shine brighter.
Lastly, we must remember, that if our lights are to be seen…. We must be willing to be in the midst of the darkness… and yet shine!
(Note: those of you who know me, know that I’m old school and love a good hymn every now and again! This one I remember from my childhood.)
Let the Lower Lights Be Burning
Lyrics By Philip Bliss
Verse 1
Brightly beams our Father’s mercy, From His lighthouse evermore,
But to us He gives the keeping, of the lights along the shore.
Refrain:
Let the lower lights be burning! Send a gleam across the wave!
Some poor struggling, fainting seaman… You may rescue, you may save.
Verse 2:
Dark the night of sin has settled, Loud the angry billows roar;
Eager eyes are watching, longing, For the lights along the shore.
Trim your feeble lamp, my brother; Some poor sailor, tempest-tossed,
Trying now to make the harbor, In the darkness may be lost.
Refrain:
Let the lower lights be burning! Send a gleam across the wave!
Some poor struggling, fainting seaman… You may rescue, you may save.
So be determined that you will be a true lighthouse, one who will stand strong and shine the brightest in the midst of ever “dark” situation….. And one who will never permit their light to go out!
