Renew or Resist?
“And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you].” ( Amplified Version)
This morning while reading, the Holy Spirit highlighted a concept within a familiar verse. We are all cognizant of the fact that every time we restudy a passage, we have the ability to glean an enlightened revelation.
We are constantly aware of the fact that mind renewal is an ongoing process. Daily, we are instructed to bring to an awareness the areas of our minds that are still yielded to the concepts, ideologies, and traditions that are hindering our stamina and effectiveness in the realm of the spirit. Such are yet governing our minds, thus producing “work overload” in our efforts.
Our goal should be to glean a victorious state – in every area. However, far too often we are required to “renew” prior to “resisting”. Romans 12:2 provides us with the strategy that will permit us to gain victory over the “pulls” of the world.
However, to glean the required victory over the enemy, we must learn how to “resist”- oppose, withstand, and totally ignore his actions.
When our minds have been transformed by the renewal process; our minds will have the stability, which is required to resist the plots, ploys and strategies of the enemy.
In other words…
To gain victory over the enemy - Resist him.
To gain victory over the world - Renew your mind.
Remember – Mental Renewal is the foundation for Physical Resistance!
“So let God work his will in you. Yell a loud no to the Devil and watch him make himself scarce. Say a quiet yes to God and he’ll be there in no time. Quit dabbling in sin. Purify your inner life. Quit playing the field. Hit bottom, and cry your eyes out. The fun and games are over. Get serious, really serious. Get down on your knees before the Master; it’s the only way you’ll get on your feet.” James 4:7-10 (Message Bible)
