You Can’t Fool God!

You Must Walk In Obedience

“…..to obey is better that to sacrifice….” 1 Samuel 15:22b

Read 1Samuel 15

Although we know enough about God to understand the He knows all things, sometimes we tend to develop a mind set much like that of Saul.  We embrace the concept that if we make sacrifices to Him – that He will ignore our disobedience.  We must allow our level of obedience to be in accord with God’s directives.  Remember, obedience is required in addition to - not instead of our sacrifices.

What is Biblical obedience?

  1. Biblical obedience means to hear, trust, submit, and surrender to God and his Word.                                                                                                                     James 1:22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
  2. Biblical Obedience means taking up the cross and following Christ. To live a life that requires me to willingly  be striped of everything for the cause of Christ.  To be willing to be put on display for the cause of Christ.                                                                                                                                                                              Luke 9:23   And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
  1. Obedience to God demonstrates our faithfulness to Him, proves our love for Him, and glorifies Him in the world.                                                                                    John 14:15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
  2. Obedience is necessary to live a life of joy and freedom.

Nehemiah 8:10  The joy of the Lord is my strength.

John 8:32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

  1. Obedience is a choice that leads to God's promised blessing of life, while disobedience leads to curse, judgment, and death.

Isaiah 1:19  If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land

Remember:

  • Saul wanted to do things His own way. (Sometimes, we embrace the same.)
  • Saul seemed to not realize that God already knew his heart. (Ditto!!!)
  • We can’t fool God. OR bargain with God.
  • We must obey God …. REGARDLESS!!!
