You Can’t Fool God!
You Must Walk In Obedience
“…..to obey is better that to sacrifice….” 1 Samuel 15:22b
Read 1Samuel 15
Although we know enough about God to understand the He knows all things, sometimes we tend to develop a mind set much like that of Saul. We embrace the concept that if we make sacrifices to Him – that He will ignore our disobedience. We must allow our level of obedience to be in accord with God’s directives. Remember, obedience is required in addition to - not instead of our sacrifices.
What is Biblical obedience?
- Biblical obedience means to hear, trust, submit, and surrender to God and his Word. James 1:22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
- Biblical Obedience means taking up the cross and following Christ. To live a life that requires me to willingly be striped of everything for the cause of Christ. To be willing to be put on display for the cause of Christ. Luke 9:23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
- Obedience to God demonstrates our faithfulness to Him, proves our love for Him, and glorifies Him in the world. John 14:15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
- Obedience is necessary to live a life of joy and freedom.
Nehemiah 8:10 The joy of the Lord is my strength.
John 8:32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
- Obedience is a choice that leads to God's promised blessing of life, while disobedience leads to curse, judgment, and death.
Isaiah 1:19 If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land
Remember:
- Saul wanted to do things His own way. (Sometimes, we embrace the same.)
- Saul seemed to not realize that God already knew his heart. (Ditto!!!)
- We can’t fool God. OR bargain with God.
- We must obey God …. REGARDLESS!!!
