On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, which is the month
of Shebat, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to
Zechariah the prophet, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo…
(Zechariah 1:7).

Today’s Devotional
Zechariah was a visionary prophet whose visions related specifically to the time after the Babylonian exile and the beginning of the messianic period in Israel’s history. In one of his visions, Zechariah saw an elaborate golden lampstand with two olive trees on either side of it. His first response was very intelligent. He asked the angel, “What are these, my lord?” Asking a question is a wise course of action whenever a visionary revelation occurs. That is a lesson I learned from Zechariah. No matter what I see or how many times I think I may have seen it before, I always ask, “What is this, Lord?” I am confident that the same God who gives me the revelation can also interpret it for me. Even when the angel asks him specifically, “Do you not know what these are?” Zechariah answers with humility, “No, my lord.” (See Zechariah 4:4-5.) Had Zechariah not responded with humility and openness, he probably would not have gained much from the whole experience. People who think they know it all already cut themselves off from learning anything new. This vision sustained Zechariah, Zerubbabel, and all of the returning exiles. It encouraged and motivated them to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem, as well as the walls of the city and the city itself,
which had been destroyed by the Babylonians. Vision sustains a people, and humility is a key that releases understanding!
1. Have you ever had a vision or revelation that had to do with governmental or social concerns? Why would God give such visions or revelations to nongovernmental or social leaders?

2. When God has spoken or revealed something to you that you did not understand, have you asked questions to receive further clarification? Do you ask your Christian leaders for clarification when you need it?
3. Humility and openness characterized Zechariah’s response to the angel. Why are these two traits important to anyone involved in revelation or visionary gifts?
4. Understanding the message of a revelation or vision is important, but why is it also important to “gain from the experience”? What can be learned through the experience?
5. It must have been exhilarating to Zechariah to see the faith that accompanied the exiles and the leaders as they rebuilt what had once been destroyed. What has been destroyed in your life, community, or church that needs to be rebuilt?
What can stir the faith of those who need to be motivated to make a difference?

Meditation
Zechariah’s vision had to do with a message for Zerubbabel, the civic official of the returning exiles under whose leadership the temple in Jerusalem would be rebuilt. The word of the Lord to Zerubbabel was, “Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit” (Zech. 4:6). This was meant as an encouragement to Zerubbabel and the rest of the returning exiles that a new era was beginning, an era characterized by the working of God’s Spirit in power, and the coming day of the Messiah. God spoke to a civic official through an established prophet. Does God still desire to speak to civic officials today? Whom might He
choose to speak through?

  • 1. Have you ever had a vision or revelation that had to do with governmental or social concerns? Why would God give such visions or revelations to nongovernmental or social leaders? no I have not. I believe teh lord would release this kind of insight for various reasons. 1) because he is true to his word, he will do nothing in the earth until he reveal his plans to his servants the prophets. 2. because he is always looking for a man to stand in the gap and make up the hedge.

    2. When God has spoken or revealed something to you that you did not understand, have you asked questions to receive further clarification? Do you ask your Christian leaders for clarification when you need it? Yes I always asked questions, even reading the word of God I ask questions. Yes I seek out those who have had more encounters and expereince sometimes even after I receive revelation on a subject.

    3. Humility and openness characterized Zechariah’s response to the angel. Why are these two traits important to anyone involved in revelation or visionary gifts? Humility is an attrubte of God and it leaves room to receive and the word says it is the pathway to grace. Being open also puts you in a position to discover what you may have not known. Because revelation and visions are spiritual in nature our carnal mind has been locked in to gather and process information by relating it to something that is in existence already. For example if someone says the word color which is singular automatically my mind brings up several colors to identify with that word. Spiritual thinsg may not have a ntural reference therfore we have to remain open to the unknown to learn what the world cannot teach. (1 Cor. 2:9-13)

    4. Understanding the message of a revelation or vision is important, but why is it also important to “gain from the experience”? What can be learned through the experience? Experience breeds expertise and authority in an area.

    5. It must have been exhilarating to Zechariah to see the faith that accompanied the exiles and the leaders as they rebuilt what had once been destroyed. What has been destroyed in your life, community, or church that needs to be rebuilt? Purity, the spiritual gifts, power and authority, oneness.

What can stir the faith of those who need to be motivated to make a difference? An authentic move of God with His tangible presence with miracles signs and wonders experienced.

I believe the lord wants to use his bride to speak to dignitaries. We are his ambassadors carrying the ministry and message of receonciliation.

  • 1. Have you ever had a vision or revelation that had to do with governmental or social concerns? Why would God give such visions or revelations to nongovernmental or social leaders? We have had a vision about the city; and God showed me the center of City Hall. The leaders of government and others are not listening to God. He has planted some of His children in the arena and they have spoken but they are not listening.

    2. When God has spoken or revealed something to you that you did not understand, have you asked questions to receive further clarification? Do you ask your Christian leaders for clarification when you need it? Yes, we ask questions to other leaders, but most really didn't have an answer for it.
    3. Humility and openness characterized Zechariah’s response to the angel. Why are these two traits important to anyone involved in revelation or visionary gifts? That's why it's so important to know the gifts and talent God has given. With these two traits, allows us to focus on what God is actually saying to us, to clarify what is going on.

    4. Understanding the message of a revelation or vision is important, but why is it also important to “gain from the experience”? What can be learned through the experience? You will gain a great deal from experiences, this will allow you to identify God vs others, His Word and not your or others.
    5. It must have been exhilarating to Zechariah to see the faith that accompanied the exiles and the leaders as they rebuilt what had once been destroyed. What has been destroyed in your life, community, or church that needs to be rebuilt? The Fear of God, that truly needs to be rebuild, restored in the heart of God's People
What can stir the faith of those who need to be motivated to make a difference? Focusing only on what God is saying. Having a unique relationship to shift what God is saying for His people to do.

  • Wow

  • 1.  No I have not experienced a vision or revelation that involved governmental or social concerns however I do think that God would give these visions to a social leader giving insight of whats to come in order to be prepared spiritually.

2.I pray for clarity, wisdom and knowledge to understand

3.Humbleness keeps you from not receiving what God was wanted him to understand

    1. Have you ever had a vision or revelation that had to do with governmental or social concerns? Why would God give such visions or revelations to nongovernmental or social leaders?

Yes, I have had governmental visions and I would think visions would be given to nongovernmental leaders, so they could pray about it, give warning, it just all depends on the Lord purpose at that time.

  • 1. Never have experience that and I do believe they would be given that vision because they are able to see the whole picture. I believe when you are not involved you are able to be bias.

    2. Yes I did ask for clarification and I also went to people who I felt had wisdom.

    3. You must be humble so that God can use that person because pride is destruction. Being open allows the Spirit to dwell in that person because they are transparent.

    4. Wisdom is one thing we can gain from these types of experiences and we have to be open to learning every time we receive these vision. The more we are open to the move of God we can expect great things to happen.

    5. There have been several things destroyed in my life that God has restored and right now my life is where I am comfortable at but I am also ready and waiting for God to move in my life, I really need patience right now because some of that has been destroyed.
